When I was still a young man in high school, still learning the basics of English grammar- long before I became a professional speaker- I had visions of myself standing before large groups of people, changing lives like the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Often, when I heard other speakers make presentations during assemblies, I saw myself delivering my own message in their place.

During college, I took that dream a little further.  One of my jobs was to secure the buildings by making sure all the doors were locked, the lights were off, and the place was empty. However, many nights, after everyone was gone, I went to the largest ballroom in the building (Pauley Ballroom), and for hours, I recited speeches and poems to an empty, dark room. Eventually, I found myself doing that in the largest venues on campus (such as Wheeler Auditorium), which sat over seven hundred people. I even found a way to practice a few times on the platform of the eighty-five-hundred-seat Hearst Greek Theater.

Even though each location was empty, in my mind, I was speaking to a standing room only crowd of people whose lives were being changed. I would speak as though the rooms were packed to capacity with people who needed to hear what I had to say.

In a small room, with a speaker box, all I had was a dream of being used to change lives. Last year I spoke to over 300,000 people. Dreams and visions empower you become what you not yet are.

If you can SEE it, you can BE it! Dream Big!!!
