Late last night around 11pm while I was driving along a dark highway about an hour outside of Houston, I stopped at a gas station, and noticed that some bald white guys who resembled skinheads were staring at me through a window. One of them came out, and began walking toward me with a less than pleasant look on his face. I could not make out what he said, but from the tone of his voice, and the hate in his eyes- a look I have seen more times than I can count-, I could tell that it would probably be best for me to get out of there.
I later looked into the history of the area of the gas station, and found out that there are some cities here in these parts of Texas that still have KKK rallies (Vidor), and threaten blacks to be out of town by dark or else... I also learned that many of the schools in these areas feed into a University where I'll be speaking today.
This has been a sad, but needed, reminder that we still have a long way to go in our country when it comes to race. I'm praying that God will speak through me today, and move people to see life through new eyes. Please pray with me, for me, and for them... that eyes be opened, hearts be changed, and, above all, that God be glorified.
Thank you for being a blessing and an encouragement.
