A man bought a new house, and he noticed that there were a few cracks on the walls. So he bought some paint, and painted over the cracks. A few days later, he noticed some more cracks on the walls, and painted over the cracks again. A few days later, he was walking through his living room, and he saw that the cracks had returned.
He became frustrated, and called an inspector to help him with his cracks. The inspector walked around the house, and came back to the owner of the house and said, “sir, you don’t have any problems with your walls.” And the owner, irritated by the inspector’s assessment, responded, “Yes I do have a problem.” The inspector said, “No you don’t.” The owner, being unable to contain himself anymore, grabbed the inspector by the arm, pulled him over to the wall, pointed at the cracks, and, with obvious frustration in his voice, the owner says emphatically, “YES I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY WALLS!"
The inspector finally says, “Sir, you do not have a problem with your walls. The problem is that your house is on a moving foundation. Your house is on unstable ground, and whenever it slides, your walls crack. THE PROBLEM IS NOT YOUR WALLS, IT'S YOUR FOUNDATION!”
All of us have cracks on the walls of our lives, and we constantly try to cover them up with quick fixes. However, the problem is not our cracks; it's our foundation. Until our foundation is stabilized, cracks are going to keep showing up in our lives.
My foundation is my faith in God. I in no way want to "push" my faith on you, but I've found that when cracks of impatience, anger, or pride show up in my life, it is because I have neglected the development of my faith in God. I encourage you to do the same.
