Today was a great day! Proverbs says, "A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great." Well, today I had the opportunity to meet Gov. Pat Quinn, Sen. Dick Durbin, Linda Johnson Rice (Johnson Publishing), Andy Avalos (Ch. 5), and many others.

The occasion was Chicago Cares' "Celebration of Service" at which I delivered the keynote address to over 3000 volunteers who, after the event, filed out to do community service on 40 different projects that focus on education, health and wellness, homelessness, seniors, youth, and children. I was truly inspired by the atmosphere which was electric with enthusiasm to serve.

One of the co-founders of the organization, and many of the staff said that in the 20 year history of the organization, they cannot remember a speaker ever having the kind of impact I had on their volunteers.  The audience was very engaged, attentive, and gave me a standing ovation- something they hardly ever do, according to some Chicago Cares staff and board.  That comes as a very high honor considering that past speakers include President Barack Obama, Christopher Gardner (from Pursuit of Happyness), and many others.

I recognize that I have a lot more work to do to, but days like this put wind in my sails.
